Massage Therapy
Fortunately in the world of massage therapy there are many different styles and approaches and many practitioners who specialize. So a couple of styles that are different are sports massage-quite vigourous deep tissue- performance oriented and spa day soothing, light- music, oils, wraps scrubs -spoiling yourself oriented.
Monica’s style is different again. She has an integrated therapeutic approach focused on the facilitation of healing in a client’s body, mind and spirit. She provides individualized treatments to optimally support a client gain their healing goals. Most clients remain clothed. She does not use oils. She likes clients to be warm and comfortable on the treatment table with pillows and blankets.
Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic Medicine is a system of medicine that understands that the body has the ability to heal itself if given the proper environment.
It uses a mixture of both ancient and modern diagnostic techniques to piece together a person’s situation and to develop a comprehensive treatment plan. These techniques include: thorough patient history and physical examination, blood work, special laboratory testing, Chinese tongue and pulse diagnosis, homeopathic intake, orthopedic testing, and more.
ND’s specialize in prevention and treatment of both acute and chronic illness using non-invasive treatment modalities and life management.
Treatment is very individualized and can consist of dietary counseling, botanical medicine, hydrotherapy, acupuncture, homeopathy and supplementation.

How to Approach Intolerances as a Lifestyle Change
So many of my readers have done the Carroll Food Intolerance test. It’s a test that tells you what your body can’t process properly. If you eat too much of that food then your system reacts in ways that are unpleasant. Initially, I suggest or ask that you remove the...
Things I Am Supposed To Love
Anyone who knows me well knows that I do not conform to trends. I like what I like and it often takes me a long time to pick up a trend (especially if it is technology). This isn’t the same in practice, I love to research and stay on top of the latest things. But in...
Why Me, MT?
Why do I treat differently than other massage therapists? I have been asked this question many times. One part of the answer is that massage therapy is a wonderfully diverse profession. Therapists can follow their interests in continuing education. They can focus...
Skin
Your skin is your largest organ. It is also one of your main modes of detoxification along with the liver, kidneys and lymphatic system. Is it any wonder that we are always struggling for clear, healthy skin? Many suffer with acne, eczema, psoriasis and rosacea. Many...
Superfoods?
A superfood is actually a marketing name for foods with extra health benefits. Most of the time these foods are high in antioxidants. Antioxidants help to bind toxins in the body and get rid of them more effectively than if the body was just trying to do it alone....
Travel Prep
I bet by now you are just about ready to be done with winter! If you are lucky, you’ve booked a trip down South and are getting ready to go. The last thing you want to happen is to get sick while you are there. Or to pick up a parasite that travels back with you and...
Zero Waste Living
There is a huge zero waste movement happening right now. The Tare Shop, on Cornwallis St just opened. It is Nova Scotia's first zero waste store. As a Naturopathic Doctor who loves the environment, the concept of zero waste makes sense to me. I just didn't realize how...
Massage and Menopause
The symptoms of menopause can create havoc in your (or a loved ones) life. They include hot flashes, mood changes (irritability, impatience, crying, fluctuations of mood), vaginal dryness and sleep changes (including insomnia). These symptoms can go on for years and...
What IS Massage?
Did you know that there are over 100 different definitions for massage? This is why it can be so difficult to find the right massage therapist for you. Massage can be defined as “the manipulation of soft tissues of the body, including muscles, connective tissues,...
Gift Experiences
In keeping with my zero waste desires in a previous blog post, I decided to make a gift giving list that was only experiences. We’ll be doing some of these for our family, but will still be giving physical gifts as well, if they are the right fit. I’ve never been...
